A workplace with meaning

For many people, Lerøy is more than just a job: it’s a place where fellowship, commitment and personal growth flourish.

We’ve spoken with dedicated employees who have devoted large parts of their working lives to Lerøy, and here they share their inspiring reflections on what makes this such a unique place to work.

Teamwork

Employees and visitors arriving at Lerøy’s head office in Bergen are welcomed by Nina Hernes – a bubbly lady with a big smile and every detail under perfect control. She started her career at Lerøy as a receptionist in 2006, and now plays a key role as executive secretary.

Nina has been with the company through a period of significant growth and change. For Nina, the variation in her work and the teamwork among colleagues are what make the job particularly rewarding.

In the course of her career, she has come into contact with employees at all levels in the organisation, and describes an environment characterised by positive collaboration and big ambitions.

- “No two days at work are the same. We never stop being optimistic that every day gets us a little further. And every day, we aim to do a little more, a little better,” Nina says.

An important growth industry

Ola Hiis Bergh joined Lerøy just over 33 years ago, and he remembers the day well: 4 March 1991 was to be the start of a long and eventful career with the company. Ola has had various roles over the years, from starting as a logistics coordinator to now working as Business Developer for Sales & Distribution, as well as being responsible for Lerøy’s salted and dried fish products. He also keeps an eye on the day-to-day running of Leröy Turkey and Leroy Portugal.

According to Ola, there is one thing in particular that keeps people at Lerøy.

- “What’s so good about Lerøy is that the company is growing and developing, and you get to develop at the same time,” he says.

Ola is proud to be part of what he considers one of Norway’s most important industries, and a company that he considers stands out from the crowd.

- “As I see it, I work in the best company, in the best industry,” Ola says with a smile.

Focus on wellbeing and inclusion

HR manager Wenke Jobotn is one of many who have been with the company a long time. For 38 years she has worked to promote wellbeing and growth among employees.

Wenke says that Lerøy takes good care of its employees, which contributes to a positive working environment. The company offers comprehensive pension and personal insurance schemes as well as good opportunities for skills development, giving employees a feeling of security and scope for personal growth.

- “I consider Lerøy to be a generous and inclusive employer. I’m incredibly proud to work here,” Wenke says.

Part of Lerøy’s contribution to society

Someone else who has been part of Lerøy for many years is Thomas Paiva. He reflects on how both the company and he himself have grown over the years.

- “It’s been super exciting to have been part of the journey from 1998 to the present day,” he enthuses.

Thomas says that the work done at Lerøy is about more than simply producing seafood: it’s about contributing to something meaningful, both for the employees and the wider community.

- “This is an industry that creates significant value, for communities big and small along the coast and in the towns.”

Thomas says that his time with the company has given him many opportunities.

- “I’m proud to have been part of the contribution Lerøy makes to society, and I’ve been able to achieve the ambitions I started out with.”
